Overview
The Responsible Canadian Energy program highlights the strategic environmental, health, safety and social performance of the Canadian oil and gas sector in the areas of greatest relevance to our industry and to our stakeholders. As with last year’s report, we focus on key performance indicators in four areas: people, land, air and water. This year we provide a breakdown of performance data in three specific geographical regions: Western Canada (excluding the oil sands), the oil sands and Atlantic Canada. There are substantive differences in the business and in performance among these three important segments of our industry, and we believe this breakdown will provide more transparency regarding performance and more relevant reporting and analysis of industry performance in each of our four focus areas.
The overview section of the report provides a summary assessment of recent industry performance. More extensive data and analysis is provided in the regional sections. Overall, we are encouraged by the positive trends in performance for many of our key performance metrics. However, there are areas where performance trends are less favourable and our industry must remain focused on continuous performance improvement across the full range of key performance indicators.
Here is how we are doing. Further detail is provided in the regional sections of the report.
